Pheriche is settled under a huge moraine. This small village at 4270m bears a staffed post of the HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association). They offer medical services, sell drugs like Diamox, there is satellite phone. They also offer free courses (3:00pm) on mountain sickness and other high altitude threats. Very recommandable and worth a donation. We even got our acclimatisation checked. (Lobuche to Dingboche, October 2004).
