Hello there,

Take time to visit Cuzco and the Sacred Valley, before going to Machu Picchu. It is an excellent appetizer before discovering the one
And to reach Aguas Calientes (from where the bus goes to Machu Picchu) you have cheaper option from Ollantaytambo (instead of Cuzco).

If you need information on the southern part of Peru (Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Titicaca, Cuzco and Lima), let me know

One important recommendation for moving around in Peru : try to the bus company called "Cruz del Sur".
The others can be dangerous as drivers drive like mad and they stop everywhere (your bag could get stollen).
If Cruz del Sur is full or not operating, try Ormeño or Civa.
Avoid Flores.

Always ask for the "Imperial" class. The "Economico" class provides you with dodgy buses with dodgy drivers most of the time.
The upper class buses are little more expensive, but still cheap for a foreigner

You can easily find buses there.
Book them 24 to 48 hours ahead to make sure you get a seat in Cruz del Sur.

The good thing with this company (apart from the fact they have the safest buses) is that you can book online and pay with credit card.
The other companies will always ask you to pay cash.

CDS also put a tag on your luggage when you get into the bus. So you will be the one getting your luggage back wit your ticket

Their website : http://www.cruzdelsur.com.pe
