Mt Whitney via Mountaineers Route May 2024

Hey all, I'm planning on doing Mt Whitney via Mountaineers Route, entering the trail May 29 & exit May 30. I'll be going solo but would enjoy some company. I've done Whitney several times (along with other CA 14ers) in the past and would prefer another experienced mountaineer. I'll also be going to Mexico for Pico de Orizaba in June (solo), and Kili in August (group & guide), but that's a separate post. Feel free ...

Critique my plan

Hello,
I got permit for Mt Whitney end of May. Based on current conditions https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/inyo/re ... 6&actid=51, it looks like after the first 2 miles, it is completely snow. Hopefully by end of May , conditions change a bit and snow melts so i can walk as much higher as possible towards summit. I would love to hike from trailhead until a point there is lot of snow and then ...

Anyone heading to Mt Hood this weekend, be forewarned that the Timberline Lodge is closed due to a fire, and so are the roads leading up to it.

Scree slope suggestions?

I'm looking for some scree slopes for some research and was hoping for some recommendations.
Not inside a National Park or designated wilderness (not allowed to collect rocks from those locations).
Preferred locations: Bay area or Sierras from Sierra National Forest (North of Kings Canyon) to Tahoe Nat. Forest.
Within a few of miles of the road would be ideal, so it doesn't require an overnight trip to get to.

Best Andean Peak for a Bridge Novice-Intermediate climber

Hi all - I have been wanting to climb in the Andes since I started my climbing journey about 5 years ago. The problem is I don't know the best challenge to take on. I've been told by a guide I can do Tocclarju, but would like to hear from others.

Current Experience:

Ice climbed a 4 x, can top rope a 3+ and compete on a W4.
Have 4 attempts on 2 of the ...

Sad News: David Breashears passed away

Hi Friends,

I saw this morning in the news that David Breashears passed away on 3/14.

Here is a link to an Outside Magazine posting:
https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-a ... ears-dies/

I only met him a few times, mostly at talks he gave and book signings. But I can tell you a story about a brief encounter I had that revealed his character.

When I was still living in Boston, he gave an ...
