We did Clear Creek last weekend. It turned out to be a bit of a bummer because it was all clouded up and rained a bit but stuck with it. There was no smoke then and none now. It is clear as a whistle right now as I right this. Just for the record, the Oregon fires have not been an issue for a while now but there are two fires northwest of here. Both of them are on the Salmon River near Sawyer's Bar and Forks of Salmon. We haven't had smoke here for a while but it when we did a week and a half ago it was from those fires. All that said, you should be fine as far as smoke goes.

I am assuming there is no snow at all on that route right now; is that correct? How long did the trip take? Is there anything I should be aware of along the way to the top (except bears, UFOs, and such)? Any tips? This will be my first time and I’m planning one day attempt.

Thanks

No snow though there was a patch on Misery Hill that would have been easier to climb up than the loose crap you otherwise have to walk on. It is a pretty straightforward right (which is why that route was chosen, as skills are minimal). Basecamp was at Clear Creek Springs and while not essential, it took a little bit of the edge off. It is a lovely spot to spend the night, for what it is worth. If you get a pretty early start, one day should be fine, though. Not sure if that helps. Let me know if I can do more.

I was expecting more like ...there is a nice trail almost to the top. :o

I’m expecting misery but not sure on how many hours should count on (12, 16 round trip)? I’m not Vitaliy so cannot do it in less than 4 hours. :)

Well, like I said before, if you need a place to crash or whatever, let me know. We are always happy to help out.

No worries, I know how trips like that can be. The offer is always on the table any time anyone needs a place, even if it is for a week or whatever. I hope you have a good climb!

Thanks a lot, I'm still hoping to come back to Shasta, more than once. :o :)

I summited this morning (08-15), the long distance vis wasn't great, hazy, but I didn't notice any smell or effect on my breathing.

And again as two weeks ago, the weather was beautiful; no smoke at all (only some haze in a very far distance). For the first time I did not see Mt Shasta from Mt McLoughlin.

It has been a bit smokey since the night before last. It is not really thick but just enough to haze things over. I climbed up to one of my favorite perches last night and though the sky overhead was clear, things were thicker off to the east:
