A year has passed...
since our first attempt and we've just come back from La Pinilla. Our (Rafa's and mine) second attempt was almost as hard as the first one, but this time we made it to the top. Once again, without any sights. Fog, cold wind and freezing temperatures.

Winter climb
It was a hard day with a lot of cold wing in the last meters from the col. The climb was nice from la Pinilla with 5-10 cm of snow in the path but with a lof of fog. We didn't had views but we returned to home with the summit in our pocket. Maybe in the third visit we will can see the peak.

No summit, no views, strong wind, a lot of fog, a lot of snow... really it was a horrible day. I wish return in better weather conditions another day.
Route Climbed: From Puerto de la Quesera, Normal Date Climbed: 11 December 2004
Nadie and me drove to Puerto de la Quesera (1.710 m) from Siguero, Segovia. In the middle of the road to the pass we had to put the chains on the tyres of my car. Once on Puerto we started (11:40 AM) ascending to the SE-S up to a hill and descended to Collado de Prado Llano (1.809 m), then we took a short cut to the forest trail wich comes from Puerto de la Quesera. Followed it and reached Collado de San Benito (1.785 m), then we ascended on the NE ridge of Cerro del Aventadero (2.003 m) and stopped (1:30 PM) on the E flank for having lunch. After 30 minutes we re-started ascending La Peñuelas W (2.204 m - 2:45 PM), descended to the broad col and ascended Pico del Lobo (2.272 m - 3:20 PM). After 20 minutes on the summit we descended to wide col again and ascended Las Peñuelas Central (2.211 m). Then we trod the top of Cerro del Aventadero (4:45 PM) and descended to Collado de San Benito. Finally we ascended the Point 1.870 m, descended to Collado de Prado Llano and reached my car (6:40 PM). The snow was always soft and we sank to our knees sometimes (Cerro del Aventadero W flank) but it was a nice day in the wild. Thus we saw a roe deer both, when ascending and descending Puerto de la Quesera in my car. Tmin = 0ºC

I drove with Nadie from Siguero (Segovia) to La Pinilla Ski Resort. We parked at 1.540 m / 5,052 ft between the highest apartments, and descended (11:40 AM) surrounding them to the begining of the forest trail that leads to Collado de las Peñuelas. Then we met a group of 18 climbers that would pass us in some minutes. Nadie was nevious because they went near us so we let them to pass us. Soon we passed them again because they had stopped. Soon the snow covered the trail and we sank a little. Nadie was a little tired so we did a break and the group passed. They did a new stop and we passed them. On the first col between Cerro del Aventadero and Collado de las Peñuelas (2.194 m / 7,198 ft - 1:45 PM) the group passed again and we did a break for putting some clothes on. Many climbers descended. Then we ascended to Las Peñuelas Central and W summits, and descended to the meadows to the N of Pico del Lobo. Stopped 20 minutes for having lunch and climbed to the summit of Pico del Lobo (3:00 PM) while the group was sheltered in the ruins of the old cable car station. They would divided in two groups, one of them would descend on the same trail and the other would go to the ski resort (I guess) surrounding Las Mesas. The wind was moderate on the top but the temperature was not freezing. We descended to the Col 2.229 m / 7,313 ft and climbed Alto de las Mesas. Did a 10 minutes break while seeing some gliders flying above us, and descended to the trail. Reached El Cervunal (4:00 PM) and went back. Traversed the slope to the highest lifts of the ski resort and descend on the W run, sometimes slithering down on our bottoms, to the nearest houses. Finally we ascended on the streets to the parking (5:30 PM).

I drived with my friend Montse to Puerto de la Quesera (1.710 m), where we parked the car. The days before was snowing and raining on Sierra de Ayllón but that day the weather was fine, only some clouds covering the highest peaks that dispersed just when we were going to reach their tops. We started at 2:15 AM ascending the first hill called Loma de las Caseruelas (1.858 m) and descended to Collado de Prado Llano, where we took a short cut to the forest trail that comes from Collado de la Quesera doing many zig-zags. The short cut was between a deep but young terraced pinewood wich had snow inside. The almost plain trail forest led us to Collado de San Benito (1.785 m), where we did a short stop until the rather long slope wich climbs to Cerro del Aventadero (2.003 m) 1 h 15 min. Then we took rest and had lunch for 30 mins. Soft and fresh snow covered the ground from this height but you could avoid it in some sections of the trail. We restarted and reached the trail that comes from La Pinilla ski resort, traversed it and ascended to the col (2.194 m) between Las Peñuelas W (2.204 m) and Central (2.211 m). Then climbed the western top descended to the basin (2.160 m) until the summit of Pico del Lobo (2.273 m) 3 h 15 min. We took some photos on the top and rested a little (20 min), the temperature was of 5 ºC and the wind guts were moderate. We also went into the ruins of the ancient lift station until descending to a non well marked col (2.229 m), then climbed Alto de las Mesas 4 h. We tried to tread only the old and harder snow patches instead of the soft and new ones. The views from the top were beautiful so we took some photos again.
We started the return descending to the basin again, climbed Las Peñuelas Central and East (2.194 m) until descending to Cerro del Aventadero. Before we reached the forest trail that comes from La Pinilla we did a short stop (10 min) 5 hours. Then traversed the comb wich is the summit of Cerro del Aventadero and left the snow. From here to the car it only reamined some snow patches. The final section of the descent was as in the ascent so after 6 h 45 min we were on Puerto de la Quesera again. However we were not resigned and went some hundreds meters to the NE to take some photos of the eastern peaks of Sierra de Ayllón and the oakwood called Hayedo de la Pedrosa. We saw nobody in more than 7 hours when a car crossed the pass. Neither we could see wild mammals, only some different birds as vultures, partridges and others similar to the hawks. But we had enjoyed a nice day of hiking and heard the song of the cuckoo! It only remained a hot coffee with milk until driving back to Madrid.
