2nd Ascent
The 2nd of five peaks to close out my 2nd finish of the DPS list. Picacho solo the day before, then Risco with Sandy Lara. I went on to climb Cerro Pescadores solo the next day (no summitpost page yet), then re-crossed the border to climb Jacumba on the 29th, and finished with some DPS members on Sombrero. An outstanding way to close out 2017!

Long Day
We took the standard route. Went up high too early and found a lot of brush to fight through. On the summit ridge we had some difficulty finding the right route up, as there are several large pinnacles there. Ultimately we found the chimney with two keyholes. Passing through the second keyhole we avoided the "knife edge" and were able to access the steep slap with the step over. No register was found at the summit, only a cairn. The hot springs were welcome when we got down after dark.

Guadalupe Canyon
A nice climb, but the hot springs and campground at Guadalupe Canyon was really the highlight of this trip.

Tough
I summited with my hiking friend Hans Wenzl via Guadalupe Canyon. We decided not to camp in the campground for various reasons (including the fact that we weren't sure how bad the last stretch of road would be... it turned out to be terrible). The owner had us pay a "day use" fee of 25 USD for going through the campground on our way to the peak. The hike was significantly tougher than I expected, in terms of the number of dry waterfalls we had to negotiate, and we got back after dark. We didn't have time to check out the outcrop to the east (of where the DPS register is) that appeared to be the true HP. I would like to hike to the mountain again sometime via the western approach from Laguna Hansen.

Guadalupe Canyon
The hot tub was awesome, even for $45/night. Trip Report

Guadalupe Canyon direct
Nice hike with Bob Burd up the wash to the summit. Hot tub bath afterward was perfect.
