Pileated Woodpecker

Pileated woodpeckers were once considered quite rare and dependant on old growth forests. Now that people have been looking, they are found to be fairly common and utilize a number of habitats in addition to old growth. This one was photographed in the city park at Sandpoint, Idaho. July 2009
