Pillars of eternity

Cima del Rosso(2624m) and Pizzo Andolla(3654m), watching over through a sea of clouds during the first day of fall. 21 September 2008. Piedmont. Italy. The ridge that goes from Cima del Rosso to Pizzo Andolla is part of the border line between Italy and Switzerland. This photo has been taken along the trail to Pontimia pass, that was one of the mostly used routes by Tobacco smugglers during the first half of the past century. A very cold breeze was blowing, the first message of General winter I guess. Nothing has changed in this wild cirque of mountains during time. I think that the feeling of the ones that venture in this place, when their sight encounters these ridges, wild and solitary, has always been the same. Pillars of eternity.
