Pine cones of Douglas-fir

Pine cones of Douglas-fir

Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is very rare in the Low Beskid. It was intoroduced into Polish forests in 1833 from the USA. In Poland it can only grow up to a height of 40-45 meters and not 100 meters like in its native country. Its needles turn dark brown and fall off during cold winters. Young pine cones are green and leter turn brown. Scales of cones are three-lobed. The Low Beskid - Forest on the slope of Mount Kopiec - August 21, 2007.
