Purple Deadnettle

Purple Deadnettle (Lamium purpureum) belongs to the Mint Family and is native to Europe and Asia. In Poland, it is common in lower sections of mountains. It grows from 10 to 30 cm in height. Its foliage is heart-shaped and hairy, and has distinctly sunken veins. Leaves have a strong and unpleasant odor. Flowers are tubular, pink to purple in color and they are produced all year long. Purple Deadnettle's flowers are pollinated by Hymenoptera (a large order of insects including sawflies, wasps, bees and ants). Seeds are distributed by ants.
