Doesn't look like rapelling.Isn't he being lowered? I can see a figure eight and he's got an ice tool in each hand. Rapelling would be a nifty trick like this. ;- )

You are absolutely right, it was a poor choice of wording. We were being lowered down into the glacier about 30-40 feet and using the ice axes to climb back out. Good observation.
