A trekking venture in the Simien Mountains National Park (SMNP) is bound to become one of the highlights of any trip to Ethiopia. To make sure that everything will run smoothly, planning ahead and organisation are essential. Most preparations can he carried out in the town of Debark. https://simienmountainsnationalpark.org/
Started from Ambiko at 3:45am, and were on the top at 8am. Was quite cold, no sun. And the way back to Ambiko seemed to be twice longer than the ascent. But the scenery was magnificent.
Beautiful scenery, cool monkeys. Start from Community Lodge to the top in 3 days.
Hired just a required scout and did the peak slowly over 6 days. Scout didn't speak one word of English but he didn't need to. Walked from Debark to the summit and got a ride back from the other side of the pass. Purchased a chicken from one of the villages for $2 and had a delicious dinner.
