Couldn't have been a better day to hike! The overcast skies made this hike so much more pleasant. Our goal was just to hike up to Silver Glance Lake, from Silver Lake Flat Reservoir trailhead, but once there, we felt great, so we decided to go straight up the red scree and talus to the summit. It wasn't as hard as I had expected although it was easily a 45-50 degree slope right up the front face from Silver Glance. Nothing scary. Class three once we got to the red talus. We just did some route finding and basic scrambling from there to the top. The scrambling was very fun. Beautiful views of White Pine Lake, Silver Glance, Silver Lake, and Silver Lake Flat, and even Tibble Fork Reservoir at the summit. We wanted to head up to White Baldy, but storm clouds chased us off the summit to lower ground.

Close, but no summit
With Vanman. Went up White Pine Canyon. We made it to the lower peak just west of the summit. We were pretty much worn out at that point, and it was getting late. I couldn't join the return group the following week, unfortunately.

Red/White/Red/White
June 6, 2009, summited Red Baldy again, but this time it was part of the Red/White/Red/White.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
November 29, 2008, I got within 300 vertical feet of the summit, but high winds, graupel, and time constraints caused us to turn around.
The next Saturday, December 6, 2008, I went back with a Utah Outsiders group and summited on a gorgeous clear day!
Postholed my way to the top in ankle to knee deep snow on an otherwise perfect day. It looks like one other lonely soul had summited since the snow began to accumulate this fall.
Bullion Traverse
Climbed as part of the Bullion Traverse. Started at White Pine TH. Up white pine to White Baldy, Red Baldy, Red Top Mtn, American Fork East, West, and South Peak, Hidden Peak, Mt. Baldy, Sugarloaf, then down to Alta.
Best scrambling of the Bullion Divide route (going from east to west, at least), in my opinion, and a good climax to the route.
Route: White Pine to East Pass.
Day of extremes. From trail to bushwacking to boulder hopping to scrambling, then back to bushwacking and trail. Came northwest down ridge from summit directly to trail about 1/4th mile from where we left the trail earlier (1 1/2 mile from lake). Did only the east summit. Great hike, really great views. Hiked with "bignick".
White Pine TH
4th time on the summit(s) of Red Baldy. Once solo, once with Brent & Lana on the Red/White/Red/White hike, on 5-14-08 with L & A, and today (June '08). Snow conditions, considering the mid-June date, were excellent; we had to don crampons from abeam lower Red Pine lake until the White Baldy summit. From there to Red Baldy we got away with mountaineering boots and careful scrambling. Great glissade off of Red Baldy. Entire route took 8+25 from White Pine TH. #5 8-5-08 with Dave, Lana & Brent. First peak of ridge run including Haystack, American Fork Twin Peaks (and the A.F. South), and the spine to Hidden Peak. Then relaxed and let the Tram take us down. #6 7-30-09 From White Pine TH & up the slope from 10,000' point on the road. 2+40 up W/ Brent. #7 W/ Dave as part of reverse Bullion Divide from White Pine TH to Snowbird Tram. 9+ hrs total. Scrambling and snow. #8 6-11-11 W/ WMC team after White Baldy. Dicey snow conditions on ridge bewteen White Baldy and this summit. Record snow pack very much in evidence. Glassades down west side wet, sloppy and oodles of fun. But IVD conditions... #9 5-29-12 W/ Dave. Part of RWRW prep climb for pending WMC hike. Bluebird day. Dicey sectons of ridge with scary snow between White Baldy and the summit of Red. #10 W/ Brent. Part of Buillion Divide to Hidden Peak. 2+50 to Red Baldy from White Pine TH. #11 6-8-13 With WMC on RWRW. Great glissades on the lower 2/3 of the west face. #12 6-7-14 Annual WMC RWRW; tricky ridge work between WB & RB. Jemand war abwesend, leider... #13 7-21-17 W/ Dave, Brent & Lana. From WP TH, then to Haystack, AF Twins and Hidden Pk. #14 w/ Lana & Broc. Like 7-21-17. Breezy but bluebird. #15 07-05-21 W/ Lana. Like 07-21-17. Strikingly beautiful wildflowers and awesome cumulus clouds. Long day. Official July 4th holiday. #16 05-12-23 W/ Lana & David Kolbo. 5+16 up. Record snow year, on snow from the TH. Bluebird day. #17 06-13-24 W/Lana. No need for SS, crampons on at 9500'. 5+26 up, 3+47 down. Tons of water flowing down sections of the road. Peak #39 in my 80in80 project.
I usually climb Red Baldy while hiking the Bullion Divide. I had to climb up two talus chutes along the ridge but it wasn't as bad as it looked. Hiked with my friend Chris who was tired of boulder hopping all day but he tried his best to have fun. The summit view of White Baldy and the rest of ridge is great.
Did this peak as part of the Bullion Divide Route. I started out at Sugarload, then did Mt Baldy, Hidden Pk, all 3 summits of the American Fork Twin Pks, Red Top, Red Baldy, and White Baldy. What a day! The NE face of this peak looks like it could contain some nice spring snowclimbs - I gotta come back up here!
