Red Baneberry

Red Baneberry

Red baneberry (Actaea rubra), also known as Doll's Eyes, is common in wooded areas of Isle Royale. The colors vary but are always distinctive; a variant has white berries. Both have the black dot at the far end of the berry, which presumably gives them the alternative name. Note the three-lobed, toothed leaves. These are poisonous. Photographed on Scoville Point near Tobin Harbor, Isle Royale, August 2007.
