Copper Creek Mine Route.   Sucess!

Climbed Red Mtn. via the Mine route from Copper Creek (as described by Cedron Jones book). The worst part was the deadfall after the creek crossing and up to the old mine. After the passing the old mine the bush-waking isn't nearly as bad and the hike becomes far more enjoyable (far more steep, but enjoyable). NOTE: Lots of griz sign all the way up to the ridge; be cautious!

Bushwhacking adventure!  Sucess!

I started past Copper Creek campground, driving until the road became pretty faint. Never saw the trail after the creek crossing, but bushwhacked straight up to the ridge southwest of the summit through deadfall and lupine. Things got much easier after treeline, and I decided to spend some more time up here after summiting. Instead of returning the way I came, I headed south around the cirque, some scrambling, and down a steep wooded ridge back to the car.

Red Mountain  Sucess!

First peak on a 4 day Montana trip. Hiked up with Jobe Wymore, Ryder Irvine, and John Hamman. We camped at the campground near the trailhead and headed up that next day. Great peak with awesome views all around especially out towards McDonald. Did Crow Peak and Elkhorn Peak the next day.

South/Southeast Ridge   Sucess!

Took the ridge between Red and Copper Creeks up to treeline and then followed the main south ridge to the summit. Very easy and scenic walking once you get to treeline.

Insane Wind  Sucess!

We climbed up from Copper Creek via the mine route. The day was cool and overcast for most of the way. Wind above treeline was intense, especially on the lower part of the ridge. Made a beeline for the summit, and by the time we reached it the wind had slackened. We followed the ridgetop back down, nabbing all the outcrops and lower summit in the process. The weather got better as we dropped lower, and was sunny and warm by the time we reached the car. Great hike despite rough weather early on.

East ridge from Copper Creek  Sucess!

Awesome mountain! As I recall, I went up Red Creek (bad bushwacking) and came down the ridge east of Red Creek (very excellent). Sure was cold on top but there were some great views! Next time I would make a loop using the east and south ridges.
