Anya...

A second place I'd like to visit is
the actual 'Calico Basin,' where the
red-hued rocks are in this beautiful
picture. What kind of vehicle do I need
to access that area. Is there a specific
trailhead or parking area? Thanks!
(near the Red Spring picnic area, right?)
Think I'll bring a large sandwich with me.

Re: Anya...

Yes, there's a parking near the picnic area and you will need just a 2-wheel drive to get there. Here's Henry's recent slideshow that shows the road to Calico Basin area: Rapelling class at Calico Basin

Re: Anya...

Awesome slideshow; my complements to Henry!
My sole activity will be hiking and taking
pictures. If I do come across some rock
climbers, I'll try to capture them on my
camera. What are those structures ... is
it a ghost town, or a populated area? I
plan to visit during the WEEK, so there
shouldn't be a problem bumping into folks,
right? Thanks for the information, Anya!

Re: Anya...

Yes, there are people living in those houses. Amazingly there's still some wildlife around there. In the evenings you can hear the coyotes howl.
Good choice on going there during the week.
Cheers!
