Gotta question ...Is this where the mountain's vent or crater
used to be ? Did you smell any sulfuric gases ??

Re: Gotta question ...Unlike many Cascade volcanoes, I do not recall sulphur dioxide smells. However, I have been on some volcanoes where the smell is very bad one time, and non-existent the next time I visit.
Mount Jefferson is a greatly eroded peak. At one time in geologic history, the peak stood more than 1000' higher than it did today. The last major eruptions blew out the western flanks, which then further eroded.
