Red Wall

Red Wall

A mesmerising cliff, ineffably serious, yet utterly compelling. This vast sheet of plumb vertical, rusty red rock, hosts an impressive roster of adventurous routes. Parallel sandy troughs, gouged into the hard iron oxide crust, soar skywards. Within these dusty chimneys nervous climbers shuffle upwards, unloading slings onto bizzare gargoyles and clipping ancient stubs of irenmongery. Loose rock will be encountered, although much of the less-attached material has been shed from the popular routes, out on the face a more conventional style of climbing is found. The rock is cleaner and seemingly solid, however complacency is likely to be punished, so be careful.

Very impressive alpine

Red Walls are part of a three mile long intermittent stretch of sea cliffs encompassing the north west corner of Holy Island on the island of Anglesey, North Wales. This area provides hundereds of fine atmospheric climbs and a mecca for any aspiring rock enthusiast.
