Spectacular  Sucess!

It's a real shame about the amount of rubbish at the campsites, because this is one of the most beautiful places in the world, just a breathtakingly beautiful place. I was pretty new to hiking back in 2013 so did Rinjani with a guided group tour. I enjoyed every minute of the hike until the final summit push, a relentless climb up fine loose volcanic scree. The hike down was also painfully long on extremely tired legs, but so so worth it.

One of my favorite hikes  Sucess!

Such an amazing hike. Camping on the rim was spectacular. Watching the lava eruptions at night was amazing! Swimming in the beautiful crater lake and soaking in the hotsprings. Watched a wildfire rip through the area from near the summit, which was crazy

5 day traverse + Baru Jari  Sucess!

Didnt get a guide despite constantly being told we needed one in Mataram, Gili's etc. Glad we didnt, just paid the park entrance and it was a cinch. As most of the trash is actually coming from the porters I didnt want to support that anyways. We did see a park cleanup crew. Summited early while a french girl somehow broke her foot and had to be carried down. I guess its good she had porters! The hot springs are a little trashed around them, but still very nice. Camped on the lake for 2 nights and met alot of domestic tourists that were a delight to share meals and stories with. Spent a day climbing the center Baru Jari (child of Rinjani) and it is HIGHLY recommended. It involves a bouldery traverse to avoid falling in the lake. No problem unless you have a camera. The center island is wild and relatively untrodden exceppt for the wild macaques that frequent the beautiful hot springs in the bay. DO NOT bushwack through the grass and forest it is heavily overgrown and chasmed at unknowable intervals. Very dangerous and difficult travel. Just take the ridge and enjoy the central view and solitude! If going solo make sure you know where the springs are located, although you could ask around.

Too fast  Sucess!

Started to the summit from the rim around 2 am and ended up passing every group on the way up. Also ended up reaching the summit (first) a good 2 and half hours before the sunrise and had to cuddle in a ball to keep warm until the rest of the group arrived. One of the most unforgettable sunrises of my life.

Neuer Anbieter (ehemaliger Guide

Hi zusammen,

Unreal trekking, hot springs, the crater lake, the summit, monkeys and dogs, bit of rain. Absolutely loved it.

Rinjani  Sucess!

Successful climb of the Mount Ranjini.
From Sembalun to Senaru.

Beautiful hike but scorched by fire close to Sembalun. Some parts were as well dirty due to garbage but they are working on a cleaning / awareness program.

Rather tough second day with a summit bid, down to the lake (and the nice hot springs) to continue up to the ridge and down to the last camp a few hours to the exit (entrance to the park).

From Senaru to Sembalun  Sucess!

Took a bit of time to convince the guys in Senaru park entrance we can climb the volcano alone. But the path was always dead easy to follow. Lots of people with guided tours on the mountain, porters carrying umbrellas and picnic baskets. Spent four quite hungry days there (monkeys stole quite a bit of our food) and got a lot of rain inside the crater. Saw a bit of lava, eruptions happened every half an hour, swam in the crater lake and the hot water springs. Started at 3:30 am from the high camp on the crater rim at 2800 metres and reached the summit by sunrise. The hardest bit of the route was a never-ending descent down to Sembalun village.

Awesome climb!  Sucess!

Incredible scenery unlike anything I've experiences in the states. The view from the ridge and the summit are amazing and was awesome to have Gunung Baru erupting while on the ridge. Awesome sunrise!

Holy Cow! It's a beautiful place.  Sucess!

Easily one of the most beautiful non-glaciated mountains I've ever seen. Many volcanoes are barren but this volcano is fecund - the forest is in bloom and crawling with birds and monkeys, and the lake fell out of a fairy-tale. Not to mention the symphonic rumbling and artillery blasts from Gunung Baru resonating off the steep enveloping walls.

I climbed from Senaru and descended to Sembalun. Approximate splits: Station 1 at 5:30am, north rim at 8:00am, lakeside at 10:00am, Plawansan II at noon, summit and back to Plawansan II at 4:00pm, Sembalun at 7:15pm. I would have liked to have more time to spend at the lake and hot springs. Three days or more is definitely not wasted inside this beautiful caldera.

Sembalun to Senaru  Sucess!

Climbed at the very end of the rainy season. Was lucky as showers cleared on summit morning. Was harder than I expected.

Mount Rinjani3726M among the Sasak tribe from Lombok consider this mountain as a sacred mountain. There are some ceremony taking place at the Lake Danau Segara Anak where they believes that the soul of the love one will come back and they send some offering such as gold and waded it to the lake for offering to the Mountain of Gunung Baru.

On the way trek down the summit we can view from far the tip peak of Mount Agung in Bali. The craters surrounded this mountain was fantastic and beautiful and many fishing activities are taking place at the beautiful clear lake.

Also there are some hot spring at the camping side near the Danau segara Anak where climbers and visitors can have a dipped and enjoy the hot water bath.It was belief that this hot spring water can cure those who have skin problem too.

Route Climbed: in from Sembalun Lawang and out via Senoro Date Climbed: October 2001  Sucess!

Don't climb this mountain alone. Get a local guide and porter. There have been too many problems with robbers and several deaths. The track is uneven and strenuous. Water is hard to find. Conditions near the top can be very windy, wet and cold. First time I went up in 1977 there were 5 bodies (locals) on the trail just under the summit. They had died of exposure. It is a big mountain and it is hard work to get to the top. Probably only 40% make it. Be prepared.

Route Climbed: Normal Route from the North (hiking) Date Climbed: June 1999  Sucess!

Although every other person on this mountain we met

was with a group and a tour guide, we comfortably

did the tour on our own (me and my girlfriend, who is no climber).

The path is easy to find (contrary what locals tell you)

and the hike is not by far as strenous as the

German GuideBook Horror-Story.

We did it in 2 days with one overnight stay there.

Beautiful Shadow of the mountain at sunrise over Bali !
