Excellent route
Did this over a span of 7 days to allow for acclimatization, and had no problems with altitude sickness. Tent camped the whole way. Spectacular stays above the clouds, and summitting felt like quite an accomplishment! Loved having two different perspectives, but the way up was definitely the more scenic of the two.

A great route to choose
It was great to have the variation of these two routes!

7 days
We have a funny video of us trying to make sense when we arrived at the highest camp. No sleep there as I woke up with not enough air every time I drifted off. Even the guides were sharing our painkillers on summit day. Pole, pole and it was fine. Sapped all the energy though and struggled to eat anything on the summit ridge.
Lisa and I summited on our honeymoon. Check out our trip report.

Rongai > Marangu Traverse
It was a tough day !
Got mountain sickness at about 5200m : very tired and feeling like puking all the way up. However I sticked to it to reach the top.
A short break at Gillman Point (5600m) is good to reacharge batteries.
Marvellous experience though !
