Rough Waters in Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Rough Waters in Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Black Canyon of the Gunnison offers extremely challenging rapids only for the most experienced paddlers. This view from 2,000 feet above the river offers a hint of this. River flow was at 1090 CFS, gauge height at 3.48 feet (at the measurement site just below the Gunnison Tunnel). These measurements are within the historical normal range for the river. Imaged in August 2011.
