Is the left side an option?

If that's the new class 3, I'm ready to retire.

Re: Is the left side an option?

Left side is not an option. A slightly easier route was to the right on the southeast side but Dennis found that on the way down. He had a hold pull out on him and came close to taking
a ride.

Well to the left is where I go. Check out this pic.

Re: Is the left side an option?

I agree with Dan - if you guys were intending to do the West Ridge to the east summit, then you guys went the wrong way .. it should never be over class 3.

Still looks like a fun day out anyway :)

Re: Is the left side an option?

Hmmm, part of the problem is that we had very minimal info on this one as it was a spur of the moment decision to go do Round Top. Originally, we were going to go for Glass but felt since we were so close, we could do R.T.
I saw the info after we got home. We obviously picked the wrong way. Thanks for your comments.

Re: Is the left side an option?

Dan, I posed a question on the pic you linked to. Dennis said he didn't see a register up there although he did see a benchmark. When i got to where i took this pic from, I couldn't see a class 3 route and where Dennis was looked pretty hairy.

Re: Is the left side an option?

I was up there yesterday. This climber looks like he has chosen a line that is a bit more difficult than necessary (but maybe that was his choice). He is further to the right than the Class 3 chute that we took (and that chute might not be visible from this pic). The class 3 chute that we took was really about 3-4 minutes of climbing as I recall. I think the hardest moves that we had was downclimbing into the crevice before climbing the summit block. Climbing the summit block itself was pretty easy.

That Dennis guy must have brass balls to climb that. Look! he is even climbing with a full pack on. Amazing!!!

Re: Awesome.

I think he was too frazzled by the exposure to realize that he had his pack on. I think he kept hollering "help" a lot or "I want my mommy".

Re: Awesome.

That Dennis is smart! He probably weighed his
options, and then chose between the better of
the two evils.

Should I let the mosquitoes chew me up at
Winnemucca Lake, or should I show Dean how
it's done on Round Top???

He apparently chose the latter.
(Hey, maybe he DID use a ladder!) -Larry :)
