Nice trip report. I was in that area several years ago as part of a trip where I linked up Piute Pass and Pine Creek by going cross country from Desolation Lake to the area above French Canyon. Beat off the trail near Pine Creek pass to spend time at Royce Lakes. Had it all to myself. Quite spectacular and a great example of who just getting off the beaten trail even a little bit in the Sierra can put you in some sweet spots. Thanks for the report.

Yes, one of the chief advantages of coming to this area is having it all to yourself. I didn't see another human being for 2 days, and it was perfect.
