From the Alpenvereinsjahrbuch: "Berg 2006".

On the track of Olivery Perry-Smith, 100 years ago an American made the first ascent of the hardest route to that date in the Elbsandstein Range.

Auf den Spuren von Oliver Perry-Smith, Vor 100 Jahren gelang einem Amerikaner mit der Erstbesteigung des Teufelsturms die bis dahin schwerste Kletterei im Elbsandsteingebirge.

The article has some great historical and modern pictures of this climber's paradise. Rated today, it appears that many of these routes from so long ago are at Grade VI and above in the UIAA scale (5.10 and above in the YDS).

Pretty amazing considering that protection was almost nonexistant. There is a picture of Oliver Perry-Smith and others wearing "tennis shoes".

Moni, I'll bet your father had some great stories!
