It was a hot day, so we appreciated the shade on the Marion Mt. trail on the way up. Was not digging the constant swarms of flies in the a.m., however. The hike was sustained, but have seen steeper terrain on Shasta and elsewhere. Lots of crowds at the top, spectacular views of the Coachella and San Jacinto valleys. It was cool to see all the windmills from so high up!
Loop from the top of the tram including Cornell, Miller, SJ, Folly, Drury, Jean, & Marion. Lots of people at the top of San Jacinto.
Good hike, should be a lot of flowers in a few weeks. A lot of greenery is ready to bud above 9000ft.
Still enjoying some snow on the summit. Beautiful weather up the trail.
Solo, spectacular views from summit on perfect day
Favorite SoCal summit block. Someone had put up an American flag. Nice touch.
Did the tram shoe in less than ideal weather. Couldn't see anything from the summit. Still good fun and a very impressive mountain especially from the north and east
Great hike to the top, started from Fern Basin Campground.
Climbed many times from many routes, always fun
Bryan and I climbed 6 peaks even though there was a foot of fresh powder. Cornell, Miller, San Jacinto, Folly, Newton Drury, and Jean.
Video by Bryan:
Took the tram up. Camped through a snow storm. Woke up to fresh powder and blue skies! Doesn't get any better than that...
epic, start from palm springs, summit and back down in less then 14 hours!
Snow Creek with Rick Kent
Did Cactus to Cloud with other 10 hikers.
Last 1,500 ft to the peak was covered with snow. And we didn't have snowshoes nor crampons, but made it.
I hiked down all the way back to the trailhead, but everybodyelse took the cable car.
Total of 26 miles and 11,800 ft elevation gain. Took 15 hours including big lunch break at cable car station and peak.
Cactus to Cloud Trip Report
Climbed solo in winter storm from Idyllwild, a fun mountain. Every tree, rock and bush was encased in ice above 8,000! Don't be caught beneath a pine tree covered in ice when the wind blows!
Climbed about 3 times over the years, mostly as training hikes for larger peaks.
Lots of people heading for the top but no one else via Marion Mountain.

4 AM start with Zach and Matt. Reach the summit then took the tram down to a waiting bike shuttle
I am never doing Cactus to Cloud ever again as a day hike. Took the tram down to our shuttle car. Ate dinner and I was out.
