Twin Peaks 50 Miler
Did it twice as part of the Twin Peaks Ultra. 52.5 miles 17,000 feet climbing 11:40, good enough for 8th place. Not bad for my 1st 50 miler.

Great Trail Run
Recently did this two weekends in a row since it is so close being located in Orange County. On a clear day the views of the ocean are great.
First time I took the Holy Jim trail up with a friend then to the fire road. The trip was about 16 miles round trip which was perfect for a trail run the next weekend to be more of a challenge. For sure planning on taking my mountain bike up here soon!
Trail run from Holy Jim Trailhead...epic visibility on the summit! Palos Verdes to Dana Point, Catalina and San Clemente Islands, Downtown LA, Baldy, San G, San J and Palomar Observatory to the South!

Solo Speed Ascent
Did a solo trip from Holy Jim trail to Santiago Peak. Nothing extraordinary on this trip. Luckily for me, weather stayed cool with nice breeze most of day. Car to summit: 2hrs 28mins. Will mountain bike this trail next time.

Once again the forces of nature foiled our attempt to bag this 1733 meter peak!

The first hike of the new year
Went up the holy Jim trail to the peak and also hit modjeska that day. Trabuco Creek Road was washed by recent rain and impassable had to start the hike about three mile from the actual trail head making for a long hike.

Holy Jim lower part - Road upper part
I never really made the time to hike to the top of this peak but finally did yesterday. Just over 3h to the top and just over 2.5h down. Went faster than expected. I couldn't immediately find the upper portion of the trail and took the fireroad for the remaining few miles to the top. Only saw 2 other people on the trail when I was almost back to the car. Beautiful day!

Harding Truck Trail route
Did this as training for Mt. Whitney. I think I'd rather do it via Holy Jim trail next time. My shoes were too small and my feet were dying by the time I finished.

Gem in the rough
Whoda thunk there was such a great thing in the OC??? Gotta be one of the nicer things in this area :)
Felt extremely lucky that O'Neill Park had a campsite- couldn't find half the campgrounds shown in the atlas on the way from SD, & the one I did find & check out (San Mateo state park) charged $35/night- fuck that. Park ranger was nice & didn't charge me their standard $12 "processing" fee, so only paid $15- not TOO bad... Got in late, ~3.30 (which made it hard to get up in the morning).
Started up from parking area @ 11.23 (Holy Jim). Great conditions- fairly warm, but fortunately in the shade for much of the time. Great views on the way up. Summited @ 14.47. Walked around top, trying to enjoy summit- difficult, as constant humming from towers, plus presence of installations themselves (+trucks+workers...) distracting (views far from ideal, as clouds obscured them from SW to NW).
Left summit area ~15.15. Made good time down. Crickets & smells on descent wonderful. Back @ parking lot @ 17.45. Beat 2 guys back to parking lot that had actually started before I did, which was fun :) Great mountain & hike-great views on way up, wonderful foliage, creek, nice smells, ... highlight of this SoCal highpoint trip!

From Trabuco Canyon
Fun drive crossing creeks along Trabuco Canyon Road, then hike up the Holy Jim Trail. Have never seen so much equipment in my life on a summit before or since.

No views the whole day due to fog. The drive to the trailhead parking area was the best part of the trip due to the rain the night before. Definitely need to get the truck washed now. Went to Modjeska too.

Holy Jin Trail
What a cool hike, to get to this peak. Nice views. The top was a bit brisk and windy, but it was a great reward. The rest of the hike fell apart with miscommunications and our leader taking us down a way that made for an extra few more miles, but I choke it up to more experience and more training. That did though did not take away from being on top of this local landmark.

Santiago-Modjeska via Holy Jim
Summited in a shade over 3 hours and sadly the register was too wet to sign. Interesting weather day as the high overcast turned to brief sunshine (thankfully while I was summiting both peaks) which turned to cloud shrouded summits. Fantastic views of the SoCal big 3 and 7th CA COHP which I'm tackling at a snails pace.

Lots of Mountain Biking
We started over by Blue Jay Campground and took North Main Divide Road up. We tagged Los Pinos, an unnamed peak, Trabucco Peak, and then up the Holy Jim to Santiago Peak. We couldn't see anything on the top due to the fact that weather rolled in...a bummer, but at least we had views from the other peaks. We were going to try and make it to Modjeska, but we ran out of time. We rode down the Holy Jim into Trabucco Canyon. We rode around 25 miles total. Great day!!

Drove Trabuco Canyon all the way to the trailhead behind the fire station. Took the Holy Jim Trail to Modjeska and Santiago Peak. Beautifully maintained trail and some fire roads to the top. Old Goats Mountain Race (50 mile) happened to be that day.

Holy Jim
Some big mud holes forced me to park a mile before the trail head. A higher clearance car would have had no problem. I dunked my left foot in one of the stream crossings not long after starting. There were a few patches of snow above 5000 feet. A nice layer of clouds filled in all the valleys down below. 3 hours up and 2.5 down.
Update: I returned December 14th, 2014 to get Modjeska as well as Santiago. 7 hours car-to-car.
