Señor(ita) Frog

Female Couch's Spadefoot (Scaphiopus couchii). Skin secretions from all toads may cause skin and eye irritation, but Couch's Spadefoot toads are among the most noxious. Photo taken 6/23/07.

Love the nature shots

I guess as soon as I get going on SummitPost I'll post nature shots, too.
Great memory of New Mexico spadefoots was down near Dog Canyon north of Dell City. I was scorpion hunting at night, pulled over and got out of my 1978 Mustang II hatchback (FYI for those who have been on the roads in S. NM)to the sound of seemingly millions of spadefoots filling the air and reflecting off the canyon wall. I had to find my way to the rain-swollen pond at the base of a cliff to identify the cause of the raucous! I recorded it.

Re: Love the nature shots

Extended the records of a few from Texas on that trip, but saw none on the particular trek to the pond. Really wet ground.
