"Secret" Tinaja

The climb of Point 4850 is a fun scramble on colorful rock, and in addition to great views, the climber will also find near the summit a deep bowl holding a tinaja that not too many people ever see. Exercise extreme caution near this tinaja, especially if you are alone. The walls are smooth and almost vertical, and climbing up them would be a Class 5 friction climb; should the water be above head level, drowning following exhaustion would be likely, and if the water is shallower than that, then the fall in might result in serious injury or death. This tinaja is a little northeast of the summit. Calico Hills; Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, NV-- April 2011

Next fall or spring, Dow. I have very quickly fallen for the charms of Red Rock.
