Self-reliance

The Ptarmigan Traverse is long enough to demand some flexibility in dealing with minor equipment problems. Leif repairs a separated boot sole with nylon cord and athletic tape. We're in the meadows of upper Bachelor Creek, and because of a road washout, have about 17 miles of trail, bushwhacking, gravel road to go.
