Shapes of Things

Shapes of Things

"Shapes ... of things before my eyes..." Like two weathered horns of an imaginary beast, these twin spires stand in stark contrast to the golden hues of Arizona's Munds Mountain. In this zoom from the Cathedral Rock Trail, Streaker Spire (right) stands 225 feet high and is considered an "easy" 5.7 climb. It presents many technical attributes common to Sedona spires: (1) a traverse (moving across rock instead of up), (2) crack climbing (wedging hands and other body parts into a crack in the rock), (3) and chimneying (wedging the entire body into a crack.) Nice

The contrast of the different shades of red in the sandstone are great.

Re: Nice...

Thanks, I was beginning to think you were gone
on a mini-vacation!

We can never say enough about red, right ???

Re: Nice...

Well, I didn't climb this weekend because the weather guys said 90% chance of snow. It was all sun as far as I could see. I'm on call next weekend. So it will be at least 2 weeks until I get out again.

Re: Nice...

It was 90% chance of sun here in Arizona.

However, I was above 7,000 feet today, and
a chilly wind was biting right through my
jacket and made my nose numb.

Best of luck, Rob!
