Shelter and Bench on Lookout View Near Angora Peak

Stone Shelter that I photographed behind lookout view on way to Angora Peak. Photo was from 2006 but it is still there August 2015. This ornery old cuss from the area built it. He owned a backhoe and had a key to the gate and it was probably used to stay overnight and hunt elk in the morning. He died recently in a fight with his son as per Jack Kerwin, retired State Park Ranger that hikes all over this area.

Where did you find the information on the old shelter builder?

It says “Jack Kerwin” in my original post. We ran into him when we were hiking up there. He was a retired State Parks ranger in that area for 30 years, lives in Cannon Beach.
Jack survived an incident where his partner was murdered when they where working picking up trash in Oswald West State Park. Jack was also shot but survived and made it back to the parking lot and was able to help the police catch and identify the killer who is still in prison. His partner, the other Ranger, name was Danny Rosenthal. I wanted to make the area a memorial park for him but didn’t get very far with the lumber companies that own the access and Angora Peak itself. Why? Do you know something different about this hunter’s cabin? My info is just hearsay.
