I'm not sure when the most recent fire was. However, the vegetation was minimal and there was not the normal bush wacking you see on some desert peaks.
In the driving directions, where it says "After 2.7 miles..." it should say after 3.7 miles. If you turn left after 2.7 (actually, 2.6) miles, you end up way south of Shenandoah -- which actually allows you to do a pretty cool, although much longer, hike.
