Why go there

I've wanted to ski Sky Pilot since I first saw it, not only is it gorgeous, but it has an amazing name. I didn't summit (not fit enough and 3 in of wet powder on a smooth crust was scary) but the trip was amazing.

The trip.

I car camped at the Gash Point trailhead the night before and left about 7 AM. The best route is over Gash Point.
From there the route mixes turns through open trees and side hill traversing to a convenient point above Bear Lake. The skin up the cirque was straight forward. With about 200 m to climb to the summit, and 400 more to get back up to Gash Point, I abandoned the attempt. I was rewarded by having energy left for some sweet turns back down Gash Point. Overall time; 10:20. Distance; 20 k. Elevation gain; 1850 m.
