Smith Saddle

The Upper Bear Creek Trail leads after three miles from the trailhead off SR39 to Smith saddle. The trail continues down west into Bear Canyon and the San Gabriel Wilderness. From the saddle you can ascend the north ridge of Smith Mountain (seen in the photo) on a steep firebreak and fun scramble to the summit. San Gabriel Mountains, May 2011
