It's about 70 miles south and that's only the southern part of Death Valley. A small dark section about midway is Furnace Creek with palm trees and other sparse foliage. The Death Valley low point is minus 282 feet and Telescope Peak 15 miles to the west is 11,049 feet. What is more Death Valley is filled with 10,000 feet of sediment actually making it a 20,000 foot scarp!
