South Face of Pine Mountain...Rare glimpse of Nelson Big Horn Sheep

View of the South face of Pine mountain from the saddle between Pine Mountain and Dawson Peak. Spotted a few of the elusive Nelson Big Horn Sheep on the face highlighted by the red boxes. The box on the left includes a ewe and lamb. It is believed the population is down to less than 100 in Angeles Forest from nearly 800 in the 80's.

Cool

In all my years of hiking in the San Gabriels I've only seen these once, and then only briefly. They were probably somewhere nearby when I passed by, but I was so focused on moving along I just missed them. Too bad you didn't have a telephoto.

Mtn Sheep

On one of my descents of Pine Mountain Ridge, I once counted 17 Nelson Bighorns about 400 feet beneath me on the ridge... a stunning sight.
