Via Ron Coleman

Was in town and had an hour and a half. I thought I'd see how far I could get in 45 minutes. I made it past the window and the chains, but had to turn around before reaching the summit. I thoroughly enjoyed this trail! It was a spectacular ridgeline with some airy sections - and the exposure around the chains area actually caught me a bit by surprise, seemed like some solid class 3/4. I was extremely excited to find this gem!

Wonderful Ron Coleman Trail   Sucess!

Wow! The Ron Coleman trail is one of the best urban trails I've ever hiked. Lots of fun, great views, some exposure. What more could you ask for? There was some type of Search and Rescue training going on when I was hiking up there.

Dog Scramble  Sucess!

Hiked several times when I lived in El Paso, the dogs had some trouble coming from McKelligon Canyon side.

Nice hike from Transmountain Road, and nicer still coming from the south on the Ron Coleman Trail...

Ridge Traverse  Sucess!

Most of this was off-trail, starting from my house near the university at just before 6AM, ascending the ridge below Ranger Peak and following it north to S. Franklin and ultimately Transmountain 7 1/2 hours later. Someday, maybe we'll have an official long distance trail, but for now a great adventure hike and really great to do a challenging hike without having to drive anywhere (except for the shuttle home).
