South to north bell traverse....very fun climbing. These peaks are monstrous with their elevation rise.
Dangerous ascent to first saddle as there was a LARGE group below us. Once we passed that point we all breathed a sigh of relief. Started with 6, picked up another who wanted someone to hike with, all made it to the summit.
One of the rap stations was well hidden at the bottom of a thin gap. We got lucky finding it. If we would have had to downclimb it would have puckered my cheeks, but with two short raps it was not that bad.
After North Maroon and Pyramid, this mountain seemed to be easy. Beautiful.
I climbed the traverse North Maroon to South Maroon with my 10 year old son.
A full trip report is below:
Climbed the traverse between North Maroon and South Maroon with my dad.
Great but tiring climb! Perfect day
A 4000 foot ramp to the saddle and summit. Runneled. Turned back from the base of the crux on the traverse due to thunder.
Rotten rock is not as bad as advertised.
beautiful day in the elks.. hour traverse to north.. climbed with pete.. surprisingly escaped weather most of the day..
Nice traverse; probably 2nd best next to blanca traverse. Tr here http://zoomloco.xanga.com/732717261/purple-mountain-majesties/
traversed in 45 mins.
have climbed Maroon Peak on its own and by doing the traverse. One of my Colorado favorites
there was snow and ice on the way up, was a cool climb
Great climb. Descent from South Maroon back to the Cord was a little sketch. Climbing on the traverse was STELLAR.
A large group of us (Kevin, Matt, myself and two others I'd not met before) ascended the south ridge. Good weather and a great day!
South Maroon was a big, loose, icy, snowy peak on the day we climbed it. The traverse was a bit hairy.
Very nice scramble. Traverse is a little gnarly in places but doable by a confident climber.
