Used to hike to all these different rock tops with my buddy growing up as a favorite weekend getaway. Most recently I connected them all doing a section hike of the AT from PA to WV. Think they were more enjoyable spending time at 1 or 2 of them at a time but it was still neat to connect them all.
I've hiked to numerous high points along this ridge over the years, between the Pennsylvania line and the Potomac River.
Great little trip; last one was 2006
Been to Washington Monument and High Rock, beautiful views
Started my hike at Rt 77 along the A.T. and headed South to Rt 40. I took my time bird watching and enjoying the views, especially at Black Rock. Trip took about 5 hours but like I said I took my time. Was a fun hike, looking forward to doing it again
Led some friends up the Black Rock route about 5 years ago. Came down in a downpour. Repeated twice more summer of 2006. The route is more fun than the standard trail, rocky, with a solid grade. Can get slippery when wet as it follows a streambed. Anyone who is interested in South Mountain use the contact info.
Hiked to the top in the area west of Biglerville, PA. Great views of apple orchards in the area.
Good rock climbing to be done here at Annapolis Rocks and Black Rocks.
A lovely three-night trip on a great memorial day. Trip report and photos here.
