South Side Cloud Cover

South Side Cloud Cover

While climbing the south side of Mount Hood, I turned around and looked back downhill towards Timberling Lodge and the Timberline Ski Area. The entire lower south side of the mountain was consumed by thick cloud cover, and some whiteouts, for the rest of the day. Fortunately, the cloud cover did not follow me up the mountain slopes. I was standing at approximately 10,000' elevation when I took this photo, at the site of what would become my snow camp for the evening. Mount Jefferson can be seen looming over the clouds, to the south. Photo taken on June 6, 2009.
