South Willow Headwall

South Willow Headwall

More than 10,000 years ago, much of the Great Basin contained the deep, fresh water of Lake Bonneville. At the same time, glaciers spilled down from the mountains. Here, we see the evidence with the glacial-carved South Willow Headwall in Utah's Stansbury Mountains. Immediately beneath it lies the cold waters of South Willow Lake. A trail leads up to its northern shoreline. Scanned from 35mm photo. Taken on August 18, 1974.

It looks....

like a very savage cirque.

Re: It looks....

The picture doesn't do it justice. Just
like a picture of Ornella doesn't do her
justice. When I was young, I hiked to this
lake at the bottom of the cirque, and
stared with my mouth OPEN!

Re: It looks....

It reminds me to a place in Valsesia, not for the shape but for the atmosphere.
It's vallone del forno on the south flank of Corno Bianco.
I'm sorry of not having a picture of it.
In place like this I'd like to simply sit down and wonder, just like your rock.
That's the real peace.

Larry ...

I would be glad if you let me attach this image of yours to my album "unknown or not famous peaks".
Cheers Marco.

Ps: ...but I don't know if this is famous or not.

Re: YES ...

I can do that, Marco! This photograph is 34 years old, older than several viewers. I think that it deserves a place in your album. The rock is quartzite. It's a remote
area of Tooele County in Utah, where two of my brothers were born.

It is chance that makes brothers,
But hearts that make friends. - Larry
