Southern grey shrike

The Southern grey shrike (Lanius meridionalis koenigi) eats large insects, lizards, small birds, rodents, etc. It uses to impale them upon a sharp point – thorns or the barbs of barbed wire – or wedged firmly between forking branches. Taken in Tabonal Negro just before approaching Teide. Tenerife, Canary Islands. 3 October 2017
