Staghorn Sumac

There were hundreds of these things on the mountain. They were similar to cones but looked more like berries up close.

Second the Sumac guess. This baby ain't very tall, and the seed clusters are just smaller than palm-sized, right?

Almost look like

a "gathering" of Lady Bugs, without the black
dots on them. Did you squeeze one of them???
