the hike, if you'd like, by parking at the base of the first butte, instead of the Hell's Gate parking area. You can cut a half mile of hiking in a wash off the hike.
Park on the shoulder; don't be tempted to pull in the "parking lot" (mentioned by Zdon) near the toe of the 1st butte. I almost got a $500 citation for "driving off-road." The "parking area" had a sign that indicates no fires and no camping, but nothing else. I put rocks across this area to keep others from making the same mistake.
