North ridge
A surprisingly fun scramble on solid rock with a spicy finish at the top. Great views of Spiller creek canyon and Whorl Mountain.

Via North Ridge
A fun scramble along the ridge from Stanton Pass with lots of route options. The North Ridge is almost entirely class 2, except for one pinnacle very close to the top that acts as a false summit. If the false summit is surmounted directly from the ridge, the scrambling is definitely more difficult than class 2; but this pinnacle can be bypassed altogether (to the east).

South Ridge
Fun weekend camped at Return Lake, climbing Grey Butte, Stanton Peak, Virginia Peak, and Twin Peaks. I started from Green Lake TH and went over Virginia Pass and looped back past Summit Lake on the return.

Stanton Peak via Stanton-Virginia saddle
Headed for Grey Butte mistakenly first, but then corrected to climb saddle with fellow SC participant John. Saw Faith near summit and we all three made it to the top.

South Ridge
The second stop during a dayhike out of the Green Lake TH. The first stop was Grey Butte which also has some fun class 2 scrambling but lacks the great summit views that Stanton offers.
Route Climbed: South ridge (ascent) / North ridge (descent) Date Climbed: Aug 30, 2003
The first stop of a Stanton-Virginia dayhike out of the Green Lake TH. (It was supposed to be Stanton-Virginia-Twin Peaks, but I ran out of time thanks to the very tedious Stanton-Virginia traverse). Stanton was a surprisingly fun scramble on solid rock, with nice views. I liked this peak better than Virginia.
I kept to the spine of the ridge when descending to Stanton Pass; this is easy but fun class 3 in places. (The north ridge stays the reported class 2 if you drop down just a little a bit, but this looked to be less fun on looser rock).
Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: June 29 '03
Easy scramble, great views, no crowds. This is a lengthy approach which made for a long day. Camping in the valley between Virginia Pass and Stanton to tag a few peaks back there is something to consider. I was not able to locate a summit register.

We climbed this fun peak before packing out our camp. Not quite enough to sate the serious peakbagger, but a satisfying scramble nontheless. Our trip report is here.
