Stinking Russula

Stinking Russula

The Stinking Russula (Russula foetens) is a common mushroom from the Russulaceae Family. It has the largest cap ( from 7 to 15 cm in diameter) of all the mushrooms in this family. It can be found from July to October in both coniferous and deciduous forests and it often grows underneath the birch trees. Russula foetens is unedible due to an unpleasant acrid smell, which becomes increasingly fishy as the mushroom matures. The Low Beskid - Slope of Mount Zamczyska - July 10, 2008.
