Strange Light on Merriam Peak

Strange Light on Merriam Peak

I had pretty much given up on seeing any light on this very windy and cold evening. Then as though shining through venetian blinds, these bizarre shafts of sunset light hit Merriam Peak. I snapped a few shots and then it was gray again. Royce Lakes Basin. John Muir Wilderness, Sierra Nevada, California, USA. August 2010.

Incredible..

Are you sure it's natural sunlight?

It could be the glow of an alien spacecraft,
as it tumbled out of orbit and brushed against
the face of Merriam.

Re: Incredible..

Hmmm, not sure. It did give me a sunburn, kind of like an old fashioned sunlamp lobster hue. Weird.

Re: Cool catch

Exactly. Very brief, like 40 seconds.
