Strange structure

Strange structure

Found this in the Pyrenees, There were more rocks with this kind of erosion (?). Can anyone tell me how this is formed?

Great, BazZ ...

That looks to be a fine example of an igneous
sill, or a body of rock that CUTS along the
bedding planes of the rock it 'intrudes.'

It's caused by hydrocarbons and gases trapped
in ancient rock layers. It's often associated
with 'fossil-bearing material.' AWESOME!!

No problem - I'm an 'armchair' geologist.
This does not look like it was done by a
glacier. It resembles an igneous intrution of
some sort. Were there fossils in the area??
