From Icehouse to Falling Rock. Took two tries. First time, ended up on the ridge instead of the canyon and the rotten rock turned us back. We were knocking rocks on top of each other. Safe and fun climb from the canyon.

Very much enjoyed the lower 1200' of Falling Rock, but the scree slope was a LOT of work. Continued up to Ontario, Falsie and Bighorn. Fun loop day even if a tad warm.

Snowshoed up with mforjan and bighornmonkey. Fun day.
I used to love the scramble from behind the rest area to the top. The rocky section had some real nice rock to scramble over. I really loved the times I went up to this very alpine little summit.

Falling Rock Canyon
Started in the dark from Icehouse Canyon TH and turned off the trail too soon to try to go up Falling Rock Canyon. Started up a loose rock slope and took about a 10' fall on the headwall at the top when my foothold crumbled. Bleeding from every limb on my body, but not really hurt, I traversed over to Falling Rock Canyon and continued to the summit. Then kept going to Ontario, Bighorn, Cucamonga, and Etiwanda.
A friend and I had this exact same issue (turned off too soon, wrong access point), though we bolted upward and got very lucky. Glad to know we weren't the only ones to goof this up! That chute there has quite some rotten rock, I'll agree there. I'm guessing after what we ended up doing, ascending FRC 'proper' probably would have been a breeze.

Very fun route. Took a side trip up the first scree slope on the left to the ridge between Fir Draw and FRC. Nice views up Ice House Canyon. Came back down and continued up the canyon to the saddle between Sugarloaf and Ontario then on up to the summit. 3 hrs car to car.

he wanted to do it, so I organized it with a group that ballooned to 10 (too many), but still we were successful in avoiding any injuries, although I did manage to take a rock in the forearm. FRC is a lot of fun.

Falling Rock Canyon
Went up Falling Rock Canyon and the first scree slope west to the peak immediately east of Sugarloaf summit. Continued further on the ridge to Ontario Peak. Climbed Bighorn on the standard trail and descended from the summit directly to Icehouse saddle. Great hike with a lot of up and down steep scree slopes.
After seeing it many times driving up the road we took some climbing gear and scoured its slopes for climbing potential. If it were in my backyard that would be cool but there is better stuff in SoCal. There are 3 or 4 short falls that ice up on good years for some limited ice climbing in Falling Rock canyon. After coming down Sugarloaf one winter my friend slipped and after a hundred feet of so his axe stopped him five feet above the largest falls. We got back to the car after a surprise storm had covered the roads with ice and would strand something like 2 or 3 THOUSAND people in their cars for the night.
