From 13832 and 13811, over Redcloud to Sunshine and down over Sundog. 6:45 RT
Hiked the three from the Silver Creek Trailhead with my girlfriend Meghan. Awesome views of the San Juans. I first attempted Sunshine Peak in August of 2006 with my friend Keith but we got stormed off before reaching the summit.
Sundog made this more interesting.
Traversed from Redcloud, descended NW face; summer 2006.
Almost does not count as a 14er.
Intended to come up Sunshine first but missed the turn because it was covered with avalanche debris so we came over from Redcloud.
On a group hike I guided, the marmots were everywhere and ready to eat our lunches if we stepped away or turned our backs. Cheeky little buggers!
Splendid day, great climbing
Climbed with Redcloud via the North Slopes from Lake San Cristobal Road. An easy traverse from the summit of Redcloud lasting only an hour. The last several hundred feet to the summit were the most exhausting but the view was well worth it. After enjoying a snack on the summit we headed back over Redcloud and back to the trailhead to rest up for tommorrow's next hike.
together with Redcloud.
Climbed Sunshine(my second summit) in conjunction with Redcloud via Silver Creek. Good weather, great views of San Juans!
Most memorable thing from this trip was a marmot that was very friendly and chirpy about 1/2 way up :-)
Nice traverse to Sunshine
Beautiful climb over from Redcloud. Weather was perfect.
Five hrs for both peaks up and down.
Many moons ago.
Cloudy but no T-storms. Sunshine's south face looks pretty rugged from summit.
Fifth of 14 14ers in 11 days. Headed over from Redcloud and descended the NW scree. Good weather, good people, and good whiskey on the summit.
Over from Redcloud Peak on a fine trail and a fine day. Descended the Northwest Face, returning to the Silver Creek Trailhead. I didn't mind the loose scree here all that much, but it was certainly a little tricky, especially in the gully section, and I imagine that I would not have liked going up this way. My first San Juan summits, woohoo!
I really enjoyed the hike over to this mountain. It lengthened the day a bit, but hey why not try to summit if it is so close.
